Montevideo is the largest city as well as the capital of Uruguay. Some say that Montevideo is a mini version of Buenos Aires, but we think it has a vibe of its own. The old part of town is very quaint and nice to stroll around at any time. Like many of the cities we've been in, it has cobble stone streets, cafes, sculptures and very nice architecture. The city is flanked on both sides by water. One side is a beach and the other side is a port. The port is filled with unbelievable restaurants specializing in grilled seafood and meats. The main plaza by the port is a maze of open grill restaurants all wafting the amazing smell of barbecue. We are convinced that Uruguay has the best beef in the world after a few beautiful steak meals in Montevideo. One of the locals told us that there are there are more cows than people in this country. Our bus ride to across the country to Salto proved the land to be a vast green pasture perfect for happy cattle! Where's the beef? Uruguay.
