Have you ever wondered where the world's largest surrealistic object is?  Probably not, but if you want to know, it's the Salvador Dali Museum in Figueres, Spain.  Figureres is a 90 minute train ride outside of Barcelona.  What makes this artist's museum unique is that it was designed by the man himself. Salvador Dali grew up in Figueres and happened to have his first art exhibit in the lobby of the municipal theater.  The theater had since burned to the ground.  Later in his life, established as a world famous artist and character, he decided to build his own museum on the ruins of the theater. I could ramble on for a long time about all the quirky cool things going on in this museum.  I will spare you and give you some highlights. The building itself is a impressive red building studded with golden bread rolls, topped with giant eggs, golden statues and a giant glass sphere.  The courtyard has a vintage Cadillac that rains inside to water a garden shrouding mannequin passengers. There are several interactive pieces of art, most notably the Marilyn Monroe piece which requires you to climb stairs and look through a fish eye lens.  Dali's tomb lies on the first floor, nothing like designing your own place to rest… forever.  Of course the museum also displays roomfuls of his beautiful paintings, drawings, holograms, statues and jewelry. This is a unique art museum, a unique experience for that matter.  This is well worth a day trip out of Barcelona.  Go there and let your right brain run wild!
