Lisbon, Portugal – Historical Centro

Lisbon, Portugal After we climbed out of the metro station in the Centro district, the first glimpse of Lisbon consisted of steep hills covered in red rooftops over looking turquoise water.  Lisbon is a beautiful city!  We really didn't get much of a chance to research Lisbon as much as we would have liked prior to arriving, so we weren't sure what to expect. Classic Portuguese mosaic pattern in plazaArched walkway - Lisbon, Portugal

Our first surprise was how hilly the city is.  We walked through the undulating hills in Bairro Alto, popping in and out of little shops and cafes.  We then worked our way up to the Castle of Sao Jorge.  This castle dating back to medieval times sits on the hill over the historical city center of Lisbon.  The view from this site is spectacular, giving 360 views of the entire cities and the beautiful surrounding water. Praca do Comercio area of Lisbon, Portugal
