We just spent the day photographing some samples of our new line of reclaimed teak wood furniture. We are so excited on how everything is turning out and really want to share the product photos, but we’ve decided to wait for our website launch later this summer. We did want to share a few of the behind the scenes shots from our photo shoot. These on-location shoots are turning out to be quite the adventure.
We went back to the fishing harbor from my earlier post, to stage some of our product. Although we got there at sunrise, the temperature quickly rose to steam room level. Drenched with sweat, surrounded by crowds of fisherman and getting really nice farmers tans/burns, we ended up with a very successful photo session.
To pull these sessions off, Meggan and I usually find some guys to drive and carry our product around, someone to translate and a few people to hold the lighting. Meggan usually stages the shots, I figure out the lighting, exposures, lenses, etc and then we switch off shooting the photos. Oh, almost forgot, Meggan loves sweeping. She has now swept away cow poop in Rajasthan and now fish guts and trash In Java.
We ended up having a few set ups on the dock, one near the edge of the harbor, a few on-board the boats and one at the local food cart. All the fisherman and locals were having a great time, cheerfully announcing “Action!” every time the strobes went off. Many of the guys were in our shots… well, at least the guys willing to take the heckling from their buddies.
We will have another behind the scenes post from our shoot at the local market soon.
Can’t wait to see the beautiful things!

The photos are incredible. The stack of ropes and the reflection of the boat in the water are my favorites – how inspiring! I can’t wait to see you in July 🙂
